Plans and billing

How usage charges work

Four registers bill for use beyond what their fee includes. See what each one counts, where to follow the count, and when it's billed.

Privacy, Content Safety, AI Governance and Product Safety each bill for use beyond what their fee includes. Cyber Resilience is billed on its fee alone. How much each fee includes and what each extra unit costs are set in Stripe, and the last section says where to find them.

What each register counts

RegisterWhat's countedWhere you follow it
PrivacyRequests: every privacy request recorded in the billing cycle, whether it came in through your Privacy Center or a member added it, and whatever became of it.Requests tab
Content SafetyNotices: every notice recorded in the billing cycle, whatever was decided about it.Reports tab
AI GovernanceHigh-risk systems and limited-risk systems: those on the register at each tier, leaving out withdrawn ones. Prohibited and minimal-risk systems aren't billed.Registered systems tab
Product SafetyProduct families: the product types in use among products that haven't been withdrawn. A product registered without a type is a family of its own.Product registry tab

Two ways of counting

Privacy and Content Safety count what happens. Each request or notice counts once, in the billing cycle in which it was recorded on the platform. A request you log with an earlier received date counts in the cycle in which you logged it.

AI Governance and Product Safety count what stands on the register. You're billed for the number standing when the billing cycle closes, not the highest it reached during the cycle. The count moves when you register or withdraw a system or change its risk tier, and when you register, withdraw or delete a product. Editing a product doesn't move it, because a product's type is fixed when it's registered.

Read the notice on the register

Once the register is open, a notice at the top of the tab shows where the current billing cycle stands:

  • For requests and notices, how many of the included ones the cycle has used, with the cycle's dates.
  • For systems and product families, how many stand on the register against what's included.
  • Past what's included, the notice becomes a warning and adds the extra units tier by tier, the charge so far and the date it will be billed.

The notice gives the charge so far. The invoice itself comes from Stripe when the cycle ends.

When usage is billed

Usage is billed in arrears, never at once. The extra units of a billing cycle go on your next invoice, on the date the notice gives, which is the day the cycle ends. A billing cycle runs from one renewal of your subscription to the next. The charges appear as lines on that invoice, under Settings › Billing; see View invoices and update your payment method.

Subscriptions without usage billing

A register subscription that moved over from our previous platform keeps its fixed price and bills no usage, so its register shows no usage notice.

Where to find the prices

Before you subscribe, the register's page states its fee and, for each kind of unit, how many are included and what each one beyond costs; see Open a register. After you subscribe, Settings › Subscriptions marks a register that bills usage with + usage after its price.
