End a contractor's engagement

Record a contractor's last working day, which terminates their agreements and ends their Contractor of Record subscription.

Updated 1 min read

Ending an engagement records the contractor's last working day. It also ends the agreements on their record and the monthly subscription you pay for them.

Before you end it

This can't be undone. Nothing in the platform reverses the end of an engagement. Every engagement agreement still awaiting signature or signed is marked Terminated straight away, even when the last working day is in the future.

Record the last working day

  1. Go to People › Contractors and select the contractor.
  2. Select End engagement at the foot of their record.
  3. In End this engagement, set Last working day. It starts at today's date and can't be before the engagement's start date.
  4. Select End engagement, or Not now to leave without changing anything.

What changes

  • The record's Ends shows the last working day, and every engagement agreement still awaiting signature or signed is marked Terminated, in one entry on the audit log.
  • Our operations team is emailed, and the end of the engagement is recorded in your workspace's Notifications.
  • The contractor reads as Ended once their last working day has passed, and the record no longer offers End engagement.

What happens to the subscription

If the contractor's subscription is running, it's set to end on its first renewal date after the last working day. The billing period that includes the last working day is the last one charged, and nothing is prorated. Settings › Subscriptions then shows the date it ends.

If payment never started, there's nothing to cancel, and payment can't be started once the engagement has been ended.

Ending the subscription from Settings › Subscriptions doesn't end the engagement. The contractor's service keeps running until you end it on their record. See Cancel a subscription.
