Delete or withdraw a product

Delete a product registered by mistake while nothing is recorded against it, or withdraw it from the market and keep its record.

Updated 2 min read

A product leaves the register in one of two ways. Deleting removes it as if it had never been registered, and is possible only while nothing has been recorded against it. Withdrawing records that it's off the market and keeps the record.

When you can delete

Delete is in the product's More actions menu. It's greyed out, with the reason shown when you point at it, once any of these is true:

What holds the productWhat the menu says
Lots are recordedProduction lots are recorded against this product.
Checks are recordedCompliance checks have been recorded against this product.
A recall or withdrawal names itA recall or withdrawal names this product.
An authority's letter names itAn authority's letter names this product.

A withdrawn product can't be deleted either: its drawer offers no menu, and the record is kept.

Delete a product

  1. Open the product and choose Delete from its More actions menu.
  2. Click Delete product.

The product comes off the register with its scoping answers, legislation, declaration and technical file, and every file it held is deleted, including any declaration PDF in Documents. The deletion is written to the audit log under the product's reference, and your product family count is updated to match.

Can't be undone. A deleted product can't be restored. To bring it back, register it again.

Withdraw a product from the market

  1. Open the product and click Withdraw from market.
  2. Enter the date it was Withdrawn on and Why, in at least ten characters.
  3. Click Withdraw product.

The product then shows Withdrawn and its record is read-only. It stops counting towards your product families, the register stops asking for its Article 9 checks, and it can't be chosen for a new recall or withdrawal. Its files stay in Documents.

Can't be undone. There's no way to reverse a withdrawal, and a withdrawn product can't be deleted.

If the product is dangerous

Withdrawing a product here only records that you've stopped selling it. It isn't the withdrawal measure, as Article 3(26) of the GPSR defines it, that a dangerous product calls for, and once a product is withdrawn no measure can be opened for it. If the product is dangerous, initiate the recall or withdrawal on the Recalls tab first, then withdraw the product. See Recall or withdraw a product.
