Add manufacturers and brands

Keep the manufacturers behind your products and the brands they're sold under, with their logos and the signatory who signs declarations.

The Manufacturers & brands tab holds two registers: the companies responsible for your products and the brands the products are sold under. Every product names one of each, and its brand must belong to its manufacturer.

Add a manufacturer

  1. Go to Compliance › Product Safety › Manufacturers & brands and click Add manufacturer.
  2. Under Article 9(6) identification, enter the Legal name exactly as it appears on the label. It's the only required field, and no two manufacturers can share one. Add the Country, a Contact person (your day-to-day contact, never printed on a product) and the full Postal address.
  3. Under Authorised signatory, enter the Name, Email and Position of the person who signs declarations of conformity for this manufacturer. Draw their Signature with your mouse or trackpad, or click Upload signature.
  4. Click Add manufacturer.

Article 9(6) of the GPSR requires a product to carry its manufacturer's name, registered trade name or registered trade mark, and its postal and electronic address. The register uses the signatory's Email as that electronic address, so a manufacturer without a postal address or a signatory email counts in the Identification incomplete tile.

Add a brand

  1. Under Brands, click Add brand.
  2. Enter the Brand name, which no other brand can share, and its Website if it has one.
  3. Choose the Manufacturer that stands behind it. You can leave it Not assigned, but a product can only be registered under a brand linked to its manufacturer.
  4. Click Add brand.

A recall notice must name the product's brand (Article 36(2)(b)(i)), which is why every product has one.

Logos and signatures

  • A manufacturer's logo, its wordmark, heads every declaration of conformity composed for its products, and the declaration's signature block carries the signatory's name, position and signature.
  • A brand's logo is shown beside the brand on the register. A recall notice names the brand but never shows its logo.
  • Logos and signatures are PNG, JPEG or SVG images of up to 2 MB. Add them when you create the record, or later with Edit details. The declaration PDF filed in Documents embeds PNG and JPEG only, so use one of those if you want the logo and signature on it.
  • Signatures are listed in Documents as Authorised signature. Logos are not listed there.

Edit or remove a record

Open a manufacturer or brand and choose Edit details from its More actions menu, or choose Edit from the row's menu. A declaration composed for a product reads the manufacturer's details when it's composed, so a change shows in the next copy you file.

A manufacturer can't be removed while products or brands still name it, and a brand can't be removed while products are still sold under it: Remove in the row's menu says how many records use it. Reassign them first. Each removal is written to the audit log.
